Multilingual Audio Guides (in Taigi and Taiwanese Mandarin)

TIPF values linguistic diversity and has curated a multilingual guided experience. Audio guides are available in both Taigi and Taiwanese Mandarin, inviting audiences to  engage with the works in the language they are most comfortable with.

In Dear Taiwan, Outdoor Exhibition, Taiwan’s Cyber Ambassador-at-Large Audrey Tang narrates the Taiwanese Mandarin audio guide, leading listeners to explore the democratic values embedded in the images. In Gerhard Steidl and Robert Frank—Photobooks as Democratic Art Objects, documentary photographer San-Tai Hsieh narrates with a warm and grounded voice, recounting the legendary collaboration between Stiedl and Frank. For After New Wave Photography Award—Emerging Photographers in Taiwan, the guide takes the form of a dialogue between curator Yi-Cheng Sun and 15 participating artists, offering audiences a sense of being part of a sincere and intimate conversation about creative practice and artistic exploration.

All three thematic exhibitions also include Taigi audio guides. Voice actor Rin and theater actor Hsiao-Han Lin each serve as guides, inviting audiences to connect deeply with the works through meaningful conversation, inspiring both emotional resonance and critical reflection.

    |Audrey Tang

A globally recognised civic-tech leader and the world’s first openly non-binary cabinet minister, Ambassador Audrey Tang has been instrumental in positioning Taiwan at the forefront of internet freedom and civic participation. TIME named Tang to its inaugural “100 Most Influential People in AI” list in 2023 for her profound impact on leveraging technology for public good.

Tang was a key contributor to the g0v.tw civic tech community, an initiative that promotes transparency by “forking” government websites into open-source versions preferred by citizens. During the 2014 Sunflower Movement, Tang played a critical role in livestreaming protests against a controversial trade pact, transforming deliberation into a public act of courage, cementing Taiwan’s reputation as Asia’s beacon of freedom

She was instrumental in developing participation platforms like vTaiwan.tw and Join.gov.tw, which directly led to practical policy improvements, including crafting rideshare legislation, streamlining tax filing, and overcoming deepfake ads online.

Her innovative approaches were further highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic, where her team rapidly developed tools like real-time mask availability maps and privacy-preserving contact tracing, contributing to Taiwan’s acclaimed response that avoided lockdowns while maintaining economic growth. More recently, Tang was key in safeguarding Taiwan’s 2024 presidential and legislative elections from foreign cyber interference.

    |San-Tai Hsieh

Born in 1958 in Penghu. His career as a veteran photographic journalist spanned such publications as the Independence Morning Post, Independence Evening Post, Taiwan Weekly, New Taiwan Weekly, and Power News. Armed with his camera, he proved a timely witness to Taiwan’s struggle for democratization. Before and after Taiwan’s lifting of martial law in 1987, he covered such momentous events as the 1988 Peasant Movement, the across-the-board reelection of parliament, and the first presidential election by popular vote. His focus of recent years has shifted to daily lives of ordinary people, laborers, and disadvantaged groups as well as environmental issues.
